What is The Museum of UnCut Funk?

The planet’s first virtual museum dedicated to the celebration and preservation of the FUNK!

The foremost authority and archive of 1970’s Black culture and all things FUNKY!

A living, breathing, FUNKEMPORIUM!

Why Focus on the 1970’s?

Why Not?

The 1970’s was the coolest, funkiest decade EVER.

It was a time of pure funk, soul and the ultimate in cool, baby. Stylin’ and profilin’ in funky threads. The big ‘fro with the pick in it or the tight cornrows. Drivin’ the fly caddy or the deuce-and-a-quarter. Talkin’ jive and stickin’ it to the man by any means necessary. Movin’, groovin’ with serious bad ass ‘tude. Superfly. Superbad. Right On!

1970’s Black culture served as the mothership for all things funky, not only in the United States but all over the world.

Fast-forward a few decades and 1970’s Black culture is back and hotter than ever. It has been reborn, supplying the essential ingredients for the hip hop revolution, not only in the United States but all over the world.

This is evidenced in several ways, such as the the proliferation of 1970’s funk and r&b samples used in rap music and the popularity of 1970’s style afros, cornrows and throwback fashions. Everything that was funky is sho’nuff funky again. Right On!

The mission of The Museum of UnCut Funk is to educate all who visit about the original “uncut” funk, it’s architects, disciples, footprint and legacy – Funk 2.0 – or the hip hop movement.

This is where old school meets new school.

Funk class is in session.

Who Is The HCIC?
(Head Curator In Charge)

That would be me, “Sista ToFunky”.

I am a starchild of the 1970’s. I love everything about this decade, the films, tv shows, music, fashion and of course the baaad attitude.

I am a Black history enthusiast with a particular interest in how our culture impacts trends and pop culture around the world.

I am a College Professor who teaches and lectures about the cultural and historical significance of 1970’s Blaxploitation films.

I am also an avid collector of Black memorabilia from this era and have amassed a fairly sizable archive of original movie posters, animation cels, comic books and other funky goodies (a.k.a. “The Museum of UnCut Funk Collection”).

My posters have been featured in More, Savoy, Upscale and King magazines, as well as on BET.

As a former art gallery owner, I understand the importance of preserving important cultural artifacts for future generations.

I started The Museum of UnCut Funk to share my collecting philosophy and collection with funky people around the world. The museum will also highlight the connection between the 1970’s and today’s worldwide Urban culture.

It will be a space that honors the past but also keeps a fresh perspective.

Please feel free to wonder around the museum and make yourself at home. Make sure you check out What’s Happening this month at the museum and catch up on the latest entries in my Can’t Get Enough...Of That Funky Stuff and Kool Cats And Hip Chicks blogs, and c-dub’s Funkalicious blog which features podcasts of his interviews with the late, great Rick James and the Godfather of Funk, George Clinton.

And if you live in the NY / NJ / CT (tri-state) area, don’t sleep on a chance to win free VIP tickets to see George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. Click on the banners on this page for more details. The Museum Of UnCut Funk will be in the house!!!

If you would like to connect with me and other cool and funky people please join us in the UnCut Funk Basement Lounge, our funky new community on Ning. Cause you know all the funky stuff happens in the basement!

You can also find me on Facebook, My Space, You Tube and Flickr.
